WASHINGTON, D.C.(KMIT)- The US House has passed the National Defense Reauthorization Act. Senator John Thune describes what is in the bill:
The Senate version of the bill passed out of the Senate Armed Services Committee back in June but wasn’t placed on the floor for a vote by Charles Schumer, the Democratic Leader of the Senate. John Thune says that won’t happen when he is the Senate Majority Leader. Thune says he’ll make defense a priority.
When the new Congress convenes in January, John Thune will be the Senate Majority Leader, and he will face many challenges in that new role. Thune is no stranger to challenges. When he was first elected to the Senate, the challenge he faced was the potential closure of the Ellsworth Airforce Base.
What a difference a decade and a half makes. Now, Ellsworth is the linchpin of US Air defense and the home to the next generation of bombers, the B21 Raider.
The B21 Raider, the ancillary buildings and maintenance facilities received full funding in the National Defense Reauthorization Act.
