Michael Fortin, 63

Michael “Mike” Ray Fortin, 63, of Redfield, SD, passed away on November 30, 2024, at his home. Cremation has taken place and a family-led celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 6, at Roosters Bar & Grill in Redfield.  A time of sharing stories and memories will follow.

Mike Ray Fortin was born on April 2, 1961, in Redfield to Maynard and Joyce (Bebo) Fortin. He was raised in Mansfield, SD. He worked at Nillson Farms at the age of 14. He graduated from Warner High School in 1980. He played basketball in high school.

On April 3, 1982, he married Donna Lambert in Redfield, SD and to this union, two children were born, Melissa and Michael. In 1999, Donna and Mike adopted her nephew and niece, Cody and Amanda.

Mike worked for rural farmers around Brown and Spink Counties. He then worked at Redfield Equipment, then he worked various jobs.

Mike lived out by Winner, SD for 10 years to work for rural farmers. He then moved back to Redfield to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling.

Mike is survived by his children; Melissa Understock and her children Rylan, of Redfield and Maisie (Mason Laursen) of Sioux Falls, SD; Michael (Cassy Zavadil) Fortin and his children, Mallory, Mason, Oaklee, and Nealee of Mitchell, SD; Amanda (Blake Dorris) Fortin and her children Dillyn and Joshua of Iroquois, SD. His father Maynard Fortin, his sisters; Kim Huber and Dawn Hall, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by son Cody Fortin, grandson Evan Fortin, mother Joyce Fortin, sister and brother-in-law Deb and Gordon Schurchhardt, in-laws Helen and Richard Lambert, brother-in-law Dennis Lambert and sister-in-law Deborah Lambert.
