BISMARCK, ND (PlayNorthStar.com) [WBB] – The North Star Athletic Association announced their fifth edition of the 2024-25 Women’s Basketball Players-of-the-Week Monday. Misti Zempel of Mayville State (N.D.) was selected as the Offense Player of the Week. Angela Slattery of Dakota State (S.D.) was chosen as the Defense Player of the Week.
North Star Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week – Offense
Misti Zempel – Mayville State (N.D.) – 5’11” – Freshman – forward – Hancock, Minn. – Zempel scored 22 points in No. 18 Mayville State’s (N.D.) 98-55 home victory over NCAA Division III Minnesota-Morris. She was 9-of-10 from the field (90 percent), hit both 3-pointers, and converted 2-of-4 at the free-throw line. Zempel added five rebounds, four steals, two assists, and a block in the game.
North Star Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week – Defense
Angela Slattery – Dakota State (S.D.) – 5’11” – Senior – forward – Franksville, Wis. – Slattery fueled the ninth-ranked Dakota State (S.D.) to a pair of road victories over members of the Great Plains Athletic conference. She stole the ball four times and grabbed three defensive rebounds in Trojans’ 61-58 victory over No. 21 ranked Northwestern (Iowa). She followed up with another four steals and collected five defensive rebounds in DaSU’s 78-68 road victory at (RV) Morningside (Iowa). For the week, Slattery averaged 4.0 steals per game and 4.0 defensive rebounds per game.

Mayville State (N.D.), who is ranked No. 18 in the latest NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 national poll, defeated NCAA Division III Minnesota-Morris 98-55 in their lone home game of the week. The Comets extended their winning streak to four games, raising their overall record to 6-1.
Jamestown (N.D.), receiving votes in the national poll, ballooned their winning streak to three games after their 86-57 home victory over Midland (Neb.) on Nov. 30. The Jimmies are 5-1 overall record this season.
Bellevue (Neb.) fell to 5-2 overall record after their 77-59 road defeat at Kansas Wesleyan on Nov. 26.
Valley City State (N.D.) split a pair of games in the Thanksgiving Classic, hosted by Dickinson State (N.D.). The Vikings defeated MSU-Northern 74-63 on Nov. 29 and dropped an 81-62 contest to (RV) Rocky Mountain (Mont.) on Nov. 30. VCSU is 7-4 overall record. The Blue Hawks dropped a pair of games to Rocky Mountain 73-65 on Nov. 29 and MSU-Northern 61-58 on Nov. 30. DiSU is 3-6 overall record.
Dakota State (S.D.), No. 9 ranked in the NAIA national poll, earned a pair of road victories. The Trojans defeated No. 21 ranked Northwestern (Iowa) 61-58 on Nov. 26 and (RV) Morningside (Iowa) 78-68 on Nov. 30. DaSU extended their winning streak to three games and lifted their overall record to 5-3.
Looking Ahead This Week
Bellevue (Neb.) welcomes No. 12 ranked Briar Cliff (Iowa) Monday (tonight) and NCAA Division III Nebraska Wesleyan on Wednesday.
Valley City State (N.D.) returns home Tuesday evening as they host Trinity Bible (N.D.). No. 18 ranked Mayville State (N.D.) also plays on the same night at NCAA Division III Mayville State (N.D.).
(RV) Jamestown (N.D.) travels to Montana Western on Thursday and (RV) Montana Tech on Saturday. Mayville State also plays in Montana, visiting No. 21 Carroll (Mont.) Friday and (RV) Rocky Mountain on Saturday.
No. 9 Dakota State (S.D.) is idle until Monday, Dec. 9 versus Crown. Dickinson State (N.D.) is also idle until Dec. 13 as they open their North Star conference play at Jamestown.

Jimmy Llinas – Jamestown (N.D.) – 6’8″ – Senior – forward – Port Saint Lucie, Texas – Llinas averaged double-doubles for the week as Jamestown (N.D.) went 1-1 record against NCAA Division II opponents in the Bill Gross Augustana (S.D.) Classic. He scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds (11 defensive rebounds), despite an 85-80 defeat to NCAA Division II and national defending champion Minnesota State-Mankato. He also had four blocked shots in the game. Llinas added 14 points and 11 rebounds (9 defensive rebounds) in UJ’s 75-70 victory over host-team Augustana. He also had four blocked shots in the game. For the week, Llinas averaged 15.5 points and 11.5 rebounds (10.0 defensive rebounds per game) per game. He also averaged 4.0 blocked shots per game.

Dakota State (S.D.) improved to 6-4 overall record as they defeated Trinity Bible (N.D.) 82-64 in their lone game of the week on Nov. 26.
