Mark Darling was born in Watertown, SD to parents Emery and Nellie (Van Gilder) Darling on March 12, 1947.
Mark went to school in Java and graduated in 1966. He was a talented athlete all through highschool. He enlisted in the Army on November 2, 1966, until October 23, 1968. Mark also went to a vocational school where he got his culinary degree. He was an avid chef and loved to cook. He worked at various locations such as Mothers and Moccasins.
He met his wife, Carol, on Main Street where they worked in buildings next to each other. Through his persistent courtship, they married on July 9, 1990, in Aberdeen, SD at the Justice of the Peace on their lunch break. Mark worked; that was his hobby. They ran the Oahe Supper Club in Mobridge for six years with Mark hardly taking any time off. Mark’s passion for cooking led to some of his most rememberal recipes; such as his Thousand Island Dressing or Molly Brown.
Mark was a kind, caring, quiet, big hearted man who never had a bad word to say to anybody or about anybody. He only drove Fords, loved Saturday night Gospel and the Gaither band; music in general – he was always humming or whistling. Westerns were Mark’s big passion; he enjoyed Gunsmoke and anything with Randolph Scott in it.
