CLARK, S.D.(KXLG)- On Sunday afternoon, the Watertown Regional 911 Center received an emergency call reporting a stabbing incident in the 400 block of 1st Ave W in Clark, SD.
Law enforcement officers promptly arrived at the scene, immediately assisting the victim and gathering crucial information about the suspect, who had fled. Authorities obtained a description of the suspect’s vehicle, which was later intercepted by law enforcement in Codington County. The suspect, identified as Edgard Uriel Jarquin Cruz, was taken into custody following a traffic stop.
Cruz has been charged with aggravated assault and is currently being held at the Codington County Detention Center. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, receiving treatment and subsequently being released.
The investigation remains ongoing, with the Clark Police Department receiving support from multiple agencies, including the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Codington County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, South Dakota Fish and Parks, Watertown Police Department, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, and Clark County Ambulance.
Chief Jeremy Wellnitz expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts of all involved agencies in ensuring the swift apprehension of the suspect and the community’s safety.
