Grace Marie Stenstadvold was born January 1, 1930, in Florence, SD to Jens Stenstadvold and Minnie (Begeman) Stenstadvold. She spent her early years in South Shore, SD where she grew up with her five sisters and four brothers. She graduated from South Shore High School in 1948.
She was united in marriage with Lyle Winton Eclov on October 13, 1949, in Stockholm, SD. Over the years, they became the parents of Lee (Susan), Linda (Michael Osborn), and Larry (Jayne). In 1958 the family moved to Britton. The family attended the Rose Hill Evangelical Free Church in rural Langford. After Lyle’s death Grace attended and became a member of First Presbyterian Church of Britton. She met Marvin Carson of Langford in the Presbyterian Church and developed a special five-year friendship until his death in 1989.
Grace started as a teacher’s aide at Britton Elementary School in 1965 and retired in 1990. She suffered two great losses. Lyle died suddenly in 1986 when he was 63. Then her beloved daughter Linda succumbed to cancer in 2007. Also preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers and sisters. She often spoke of the comfort she drew during those times from her faith in Christ.
Grace passed away Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Wheatcrest Hills HealthCare Center in Britton, with her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Jayne Eclov, at her side. She was 94 years old.
Left to celebrate her life are her sons, Lee (Susan) of Rockford, IL and Larry (Jayne) of Buffalo Grove, IL. Also grandchildren Anders (Lee), Aly Howard (Linda), and Addie, Paige and Erik (Larry) as well as great grandchildren: Piper (Aly), Dane and Liam (Addie), Olive and Margo (Paige), and Iver (Erik).
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be directed to the Britton Library.
