Aberdeen City Council receive study on rates for water and sewage

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The Aberdeen City Council on Monday during their work session received a report on recommended rate increases for the water and sewer for the city.  The report came from Banner Engineering based from Brookings, not the Banner from Aberdeen.

Tanya Miller is the engineer that did the study and reported to the council.

Miller talked first about water rates.  She first discuss water usage done by the residents of Aberdeen.

Next she moved on the water usages by businesses in the city.

Miller offer recommendations on what the city can do.

Miller stress the water restrictions going forward.

Miller was asked about the data they used to offer their recommendations.

They recommend rate increases of 14% or 2025, 13% for 2026, and 11.5% for 2027.

Miller moved on to sewer rates.

Miller discuss how they would determine a figure in mind based on what waste is done it the city.

Miller talks about what the study indicated that consumers would need to pay monthly to cover the loans needed to upgrade the wastewater plant.

Miller discuss what they city needs to do for now to ease concerns for the citizens in the city.

The city council addressed the wastewater improvement project during the meeting itself Monday night.
