SOUTH DAKOTA(KCCR)- Saturday is National Move Over Day.  Shawn Steward with Triple-A South Dakota says it’s a day to underscore the importance of moving over and slowing down as you approach disabled vehicles along the road.

Steward says night time carries the greatest risk to people who end up on the side of the road.

All 50 states have a move over law that carry fines and possible jail time to not giving space to disabled vehicles on the shoulder.

South Dakota’s law requires a driver to slow down to 20 miles an hour under the posted speed limit and move over where possible.  According to Triple-A 89-percent of crashes occcured at locations where the speed limit was 55 or higher with almost all taking place on interstates or limited access highways.
