Elsie Weigel, 82

Elsie Weigel, 82, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Thursday, October 10,2024 at Avera St. Lukes, surrounded by her loving family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 16,2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Burial will be after the Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

A time of fellowship and luncheon will follow the burial at the Parish Hall.

Visitation will be 5pm-7pm Tuesday, with a liturgical wake and rosary at 7 p.m.at Carlsen Funeral Home in Aberdeen. Visitation continues one hour before Mass at the church.

Elsie Louise Levine was born June 30, 1942, to Joseph and Marian (Ritzman) Levine in Boise, Idaho.

In 1955, the family moved to Pukwana, SD. She graduated from Pukwana High School in 1960. Elsie graduated from Northern State College in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary education.

Elsie taught one year at Monroe Junior High, five years at Howard Hedger Elementary, four years at Groton Junior and Senior High and twelve years at Simmons Junior High, retiring in 1997.

Elsie was married to her sweetheart, Bob, for 54 years until his death in 2018.

Elsie volunteered at Roncalli Nearly New and the Aberdeen Humane Society. She was a member of PEO, chapter CB.

Elsie enjoyed long-distance cycling, hiking and traveling to visit her grandchildren with her husband Bob. Her hobbies included quilting, watercolor and acrylic painting, reading, and gardening.

Elsie enjoyed exercising at the YMCA with the Senior Shape Up group, practicing tai chi at the AARC, doing chair yoga and having Monday morning coffee with her friends.

One of the special joys of her life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Elsie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by daughters: Kimberly Stoecker, of Aberdeen, SD, and Kathryn (Brian Antonio) Weigel of Petaluma, CA; sons: Michael Weigel of Newberg, OR and Daniel (Kimberly) Weigel of Kansas City, MO; nieces: Stacie Cronberg and Heather Breed; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Marian Levine; her sweetheart Bob; brother James Levine and sister Frances Cronberg.
