FORT PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- It’s been years in the making, but the City of Fort Pierre and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers appear to be moving toward an agreement that will put 40-some lots– scattered around town– back on the tax rolls.

At this week’s meeting, Mayor Gloria Hanson said she received good news from Frank Tedeschi with Senator Mike Rounds office. She said Corps will not require a new feasibility study on the lots.

The Corps of Engineers bought out 44 lots in Fort Pierre following the 2011 flood with the provision that the lots could not be used for residential housing. The lots can be used for parks and green space, which gets them back on the list of taxable property in Fort Pierre and Stanley County.

The Corps and Fort Pierre previously reached an agreement on one lot, which is where the all-season fish cleaning station is being built near the 5th Avenue boat ramp.
