Joyce Haerich, 71, Venturia, ND, died Monday September 30, 2024 at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, SD.
Joyce Ann Pelz, daughter of Dolores (Linnebur) and Matthew Pelz, was born at Brush, CO on November 16, 1952. She spent much of her youth at Strasburg, CO and graduated from Strasburg High School, Class of 1971. Joyce married Thomas John Haerich (best known as TJ) on January 15., 1972 at Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Denver, CO. TJ’s job in natural gas processing had the family make several moves in Colorado. They first settled in Aurora, moved to Loveland, and later to Windsor. The family made there last move in 1989, to Venturia. Her longest employment was at Blumhardt Manufacturing in Ashley, ND as an equipment plastic molder. She retired due to ill health in 2015. However, she continued working the rest of her life doing housekeeping at various places and as a part time pharmacy clerk at White Drug. Joyce was a member of St. David’s Catholic Church in Ashley where she served as a sacristan and Eucharistic Minister. She was also active in the Ashley Heritage Center and the Ashley Medical Center Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting and plastic canvas work. Her favorite pastime, however, was baking as her kitchen looked like an advertisement for the Pillsbury Dough Boy.
Joyce is survived by TJ, her husband of 52 years; two sons—Thomas (Katie) Haerich of Kansas City, MO and Jason (Christina) Haerich of Colorado City, CO; two daughters—Sherri (Bryce) Mindt of Gladstone, ND and Sarah (Jason) Mauzey of Colorado City; one brother, Edwin Pelz of Texas; one sister, Lisa Pelz-Auston of Snowflake, AZ; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Matthew, on November 22, 1999; her mother, Dolores, on July 8, 20025; and two brothers—Mark and Greg.

Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley, with Father Wenceslaus Katanga, Celebrant. Inurnment will be at Byer Cemetery, Byer, CO. Musicians will be Malissa Piatz and St. David’s Catholic Church Choir; Vocal selections will be “Here I am, Lord”, “Prayer of St. Francis”, “On Eagle’s Wings”, “Song of Farewell”, and “Blest Are They”; Lector will be Amanda Bader; Eucharistic Minister will be Warren Martz; Mass servers will be Audrey Bader and Noah Bader; Usher will be Denny Hoffman; and offertory Gift bearers will be grandchildren Talon Haerich and Hannah Haerich .
Honorary bearers will be Joyce’s grandchildren.
Active bearers will be Joyce’s sons—Thomas and Jason.
A Wake service and praying the Rosary is scheduled for 7:00 PM Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at St. David’s Catholic Church, Ashley.
