The memorial service for Ronda R. Schmidt, 75, of Aberdeen, SD, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home. Ronda died Friday, September 27, at Avera McKennen Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Ronda R. (Rahrick) Schmidt was born on July 12, 1949 to Wendlen and Margaret (Schatz) Rahrick at St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen. She grew up in Faulkton, SD, where she graduated from Faulkton High School in 1967. She worked at the Faulk County Record and at her father’s pool hall over the years. In Aberdeen, she attended Northern State College and graduated from the School of Commerce.
On October 28, 1977, Ronda married Larry Schmidt. Together, they made their home in Aberdeen and had two children, Amber and Wendy. Ronda worked as a typist for many years before her children were born. Afterward, she expertly balanced work and home life, always prioritizing family first. She enjoyed cruising with Larry in their classic cars and attending car shows and rod runs. She was an excellent bowler on a league for many years.
Ronda loved baking all kinds of goodies and cooking meals for her family, constantly browsing recipes and trying new ones to share. She loved playing games and cards, solving jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and making crafts of all kinds, especially crochet. She also enjoyed reading, and watching movies and TV shows whilst snuggling her beloved cat, Samfy. She was a devoted and loving grandmother, spending countless hours reading, playing games and helping with workbooks and activities. She loved joining her grandchildren wherever they went, be it Storybook Land, the library, or just the grocery store. She was a strong woman with a feisty spirit and a generous laugh, and she always listened when someone needed to talk. She will be dearly missed.
Grateful for having shared Ronda’s life are her children, Amber (Patrick) O’Brien and Wendy (David) Meyers; and grandchildren: Sebastian O’Brien, Quentin O’Brien, Reese Meyers, Dagny Meyers, Margo Meyers, and Alexander Timothy Meyers.
Preceding Ronda in death are her parents, Wendlen and Margaret Rahrick; Husband, Larry Schmidt; and brother, Ronald Rahrick.
