PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The cost to camp and fish or hunt in South Dakota may be going up if a proposal introduced last week before the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission moves forward. Deputy Secretary Scott Simpson says inflation is outpacing the user-pay, user-benefit system.
Simpson says in developing the proposed fee system resident and non-resident fees were addressed separately.
Simpson says state general funds make up a very small percentage of the money Game, Fish and Parks and use for programs and upkeep of the parks system and assets.
A 30-day public comment period is open on the proposal. The fee structures will be addressed by the Game, Fish and Parks Commission again in October.
