Residents from Claremont address concerns about semis going through the community

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The Brown County Commission heard concerns Tuesday from residents in Claremont involving semis bringing byproducts from Demkota Beef Plant in Aberdeen.

Spokesperson and resident of Claremont, Nancy Cutler discuss how this came about.


Cutler talks about their contact with the South Dakota Department of Agriculture & Natural Resources.

Cutler said the biggest issue the smell that comes from the byproducts.

Cutler also told the Commission about their talk with Bismarck which runs the Semis to and

Cutler was informed by the group that they will take care of the scent but she will take a wait & see approach to it.

County Commissioner Duane Sutton told the Claremont residents that he informed the chairs of Brown County Offices.

Brown County Highway Superintendent Dirk Rogers informed the commission about what he was told from Demkota Beef.

Brown County Planning & Zoning Director, Scott Bader discuss how this really not a zoning issue that they can address.

Brown County Emergency Management Scott Meints talks about what he was informed by the DANR.

Brown County Commissioner Duane Sutton inform the residents of Claremont that are now this is more of a city issue than a county issue.

The city of Claremont is hosting a public forum involving this issue on Thursday, June 11th at 7pm.
