SIOUX FALLS, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – After winning their last six games, the Aberdeen Smittys dropped a pair of games against Sioux Falls Post 15 East & were swept for the first time since May 14th against Watertown Post 17; falling 5-4 in walk-off fashion in game one & falling 2-0 in game two.
Phillip Zens got the start in game one and worked for five and third innings and scattered five hits and four earned runs & also struck out four, he finished with the no decision in the contest. Donnie Soderlund came in, in relief and surrendered the walk-off hit in the seventh inning. Offensively, Casey Vining went 1-4 with a 2RBI single. Cooper Eisenbeisz was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with a run scored and one run knocked in.
In game two, the normally white-hot Smittys offense just couldn’t get anything going and fell 2-0 in a pitchers dual. Zane Backous pitched a complete game six inning contest and picked up the loss, althouogh he surrendered 10 hits, only two runs crossed the plate + he stuck out six. The lone bright spot on offense was Drew Salfrank, he went 2-3 on the day.
With the losses, the Smittys drop to 22-7 and they’ll be back in action at home on Saturday against Huron for a doubleheader, first pitch is slated for 3p on HubCityRadio.com from Fossum Field.
