DAKOTA DUNES, S.D.(KELO)- Flood waters appear to be hitting their crest in the North Shore area of North Sioux City.

That’s ground zero for emergency workers Monday, following a night of home evacuations and some emergency rescue efforts.

At a news briefing, Union County Emergency Management Director Jason Westcott issued a stern warning, and a plea for people to stay clear of the area.

The same is true for Dakota Dunes.

Governor Kristi Noem says so far, that area has been spared heavy damage, even though residents have been evacuated.

Governor Noem says she’s hopeful I-29 will be re-opened by tonight.
