PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews & KCCR)-The Let Freedom Fly Airshow this weekend at Pierre Regional Airport will include all sorts of pilots from stunt pilots to military pilots.  But one sort of pilot will be prohibited from the two-day aerial extravaganza…drone pilots.

Hughes County Sheriff Patrick Callahan says anyone using a drone, even before the airshow will likely end up having a conversation with federal Air Marshals.

With many pieces of military assets at the Pierre Regional Airport security, in general, will be much more enhanced than usual.

Callahan says the drone detection technology can pick up on drone use within a multiple mile radius of Pierre Regional Airport and can detect a drone only a few feet off the ground.  The restriction on drone use includes any commercial or legally licensed drone pilots.

Organizers of The Let Freedom Fly International Airshow want to be sure spectators know what to expect.

Airshow Director Clint Peitz (p-eye-tz) says tickets will NOT be sold at the gate.

Peitz says there are a few options for getting out to the show.

Peitz also reminds folks that shade and seating will both be very limited.

For those who think they will be able to watch the show off-site, Peitz says you’re going to miss most of it.

Parking is free with a ticket purchase and children 12 and under are admitted free. There is a special rate for active-duty military personnel and veterans. Military ID and valid ticket will be required to enter.
