Eureka, SD, resident Michael Mulqueen, 69, passed away January 23, 2024, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen, SD, in the loving presence of his wife, Irene (nee Nohrden), and family. He will be missed by his son Ian Mulqueen of Phoenix, AZ, and daughter Holly Thompson of Glendale, AZ, as well as their respective families. He is also survived by his two sisters: younger sister Susan (Lockett) and older sister Linda (Jarvis), as well as their families.
Michael had a close relationship with his wife’s family: Irene’s mother Roberta O’Shea and her sister Vivian Fitzgerald, both of Eureka; his brother-in-law Patrick Nohrden of Reno, NV; and his sister-in-law Kathleen McGinnis of Ardmore, OK.
The son of Robert Mulqueen and Theresa (Ross), who both predeceased him, Michael was born in New Jersey and moved around for a while before enlisting in the US Army. While on active duty, he was stationed mostly at Ft. Polk, LA. After his honorable discharge, he worked in telecommunications in Phoenix and Los Angeles before moving to Las Vegas, where he worked in logistics software for UPS and special events coordination.
He married Irene in Las Vegas in 2001. The Mulqueens moved to Eureka in April 2021. They became beloved members of the community, where he was able to pursue and share his love of music, movies, and dogs.
Services will be 1:00 PM, Sunday, January 28, 2024 at Lien-Straub-Carlsen Chapel, Eureka, led by Pastor Jonathon Fargher. Military rites will be performed by the Fred Weller American Legion Post #186, Eureka, SD. Bearers will be Michael’s children, Ian and Holly. Vocal selections will be “Pictures of You”, “Asleep”, and “Hallelujah”.
