ABERDEEN, SD (NSUWolves.com) – On Friday, the National Wrestling Coaches Association released the final team and individual national rankings of 2021. The Northern State University Wolves came in at No. 21 nationally with two wrestlers individually ranked. Wyatt Turnquist came in at No. 8 at 149 pounds, while James Burks sits at No. 5 in the 157 pound weight class.
Northern holds a 3-0 dual record in 2021 with wins over Concordia Moorhead, Minot State, and Southwest Minnesota State. The Wolves will kick off the New Year at the WJ duals with match-ups against Drury, Ouachita Baptist, and William Jewell.
Turnquist is coming off a third place finish at the Midwest Classic. The junior tallied a 4-2 record with big wins over No. 4 Carson Speelman (Ashland) and No. 7 Logan Bailey (U-Indy).
Burks led the team from the Midwest Classic with a runner-up finish at 157 pounds. The junior went 4-1 on the weekend, notching two pins and a major decision.
